The template basically allows you to take 4 monks in a build without sacraficing much damage. And the skill has been a problem in TA forever.

Doesn't mean it needed such a big nerf.
There's something called balance in this game. Going from OP levels to unusable levels is not a balance. It just make one more skill unsuable. I understand the need for people to discover other skills and tone down what's OP'ed, but this went from OP'ed to an unusual nerf to a point where people wonder if it's a joke or not.
Balance would've meant:
- Increasing recharge time, but not 90 seconds
- Making it "easily interruptible" or at least increase cast time.
- Increasing energy cost to 15 and not 25.
But not extreme stuff at the same time. We're talking about 90-second recharge for a 5-second spell which takes 25e to cast. It's unusable.

Although I agree that Smiters can basically run ANY elite in the game and still be effective (I ran "The Power is Yours!" + wanding and it was leet), nerfing the skill to the state of "Balanced" is better than nerfing it, then kicking it, tearing off it's limbs and then crapping on it.
And then copulating with it. And desecrating it's remains. Oh, wait, that's the same thing. Whatever.

Maybe, instead of it lasting 30 seconds, they could have made the duration scaleable (5..10)? So, at max Divine it would match its recharge? Increase energy to 10?
It just seems to me there was an easy way to balance this.

I have to say that quite a few people here sound like they make sense.
Why must skill balance take an all (as in OP'ed) or nothing (as in lol, raep'ed) approach?

The point is, the skill in its current form is very imbalanced. Izzy just wants to make it so that people will not use it.
Problem solved. The skill wasn't balanced in any form, so this was probably the only smart approach.

i don't pvp much, so it doesn't "hurt" me much, but still this skill is even worse than if you had just 7 instead of 8 skills - it takes you 25energy for nearly no effect, so yeh, as it is atm, it's worse than if they would simply remove it.
but like i said, doesn't bother me too much, only playing occasional GvG/HA, so won't hurt too much

They should give HB a makeover so it makes your smite spells do quad damage on undead or something mostly pve related. It would be useful and it would still remove it from pvp.

I'd say it's quite the contrary, the skill alone is fine, just like necro spike skills have been fine, when you have 3+copies things become broken. It's not like the build has any direct dmg unless you condi/hex or trigger ROD...

Fenix, guild tags aside for a moment... why would something like what Kusandaa said a few posts ago not work? A nerf to the skill where it might not be OP'ed but not stomped into the ground for high end pvp or casual pvp either.

Well there goes my RA smiter. Wow, now smiting prayers are useless again just like they always have been. Why not just, increase recharge time, and then enchantment strip = gg. Mirror of Disenchantment anyone? You gonna nerf xinrae's weapon and all those skills too? Deals dmg and heals whoa! Wait nerf blood magic ever more, deals dmg and self heals!

Who's to say that Smiters Boon still doesn't work well, you'll get the same effect but just for 5 seconds with 90r and 25e.
Though 10 seconds 30r and 15e may have been a little more reasonable.
